In Home Supportive Services logoThe In-Home Supportive Services Training Academy (IHSSTA) offers trainings for IHSS county employees throughout various regions within the state of California. We encourage you to review and familiarize yourself with all travel documents before enrolling in any classes that are located outside of your home region (where your IHSS office is located). If you have any questions about lodging, State rates, out-of-region pre-approval or the reimbursement process, please email our, IHSS Travel Help Desk beforehand to make sure your travel reimbursement will be approved and processed in a timely manner. FAQ’s (Frequently Asked Questions):

Q. When do I need to get pre-approval from IHSSTA?

A. If you are traveling outside of your region then pre-approval is required. Please complete the appropriate form and submit via e-mail to: IHSS-travel@mail.sdsu.edu

Q. If I have already received Pre-Approval by my Manager/Supervisor or Employer, do I still need to seek pre-approval from the IHSS Training Academy?

A. Yes, only IHSSTA can provide pre-approval to travel out of region.

Q. What if I did not get pre-approval prior to attending my training?

A. As soon as you are aware that pre-approval is needed, please complete the appropriate form along with a justification as to why pre-approval was not obtained. Both the form and justification should be e-mailed to: IHSS-travel@mail.sdsu.edu  Please note that you will receive two warnings with the third offense resulting in reimbursement not being processed for future training’s.

Q. Can I fax or e-mail my reimbursement?

A. No, we are not able to accept any faxed or e-mailed copies for travel reimbursements. If you do submit forms in this manner, they will have to be routed back to you with proper instructions.

Q. How long will it take for my reimbursement to be processed?

A. The average processing time for reimbursements is 4-6 weeks from the time proper documentation is received at our central office in San Diego. Please note, that missing documentation and/or missing pre-approval will delay the processing of your reimbursement.

Q. Can I book my hotel through a third party vendor?

A. In order for us to process reimbursement according to State guidelines, you will need both the itemized receipt from the third party vendor as well as the hotel . If you are not able to provide both receipts, we are not able to process reimbursement. As such, we discourage the use of third party vendors.
